Tennis lovers are in for a treat this summer. The first-ever United Cup will be played in cities across Australia at the end of December and the star-studded Australian Open will be taking place in Melbourne in January.

The inaugural United Cup will see supremely talented Spaniard, Rafael Nadal squares off against Aussie, Nick Kyrgios, and other stars of the game. A formidable Greek contingent includes Maria Sakkari and Stefanos Tsitsipas.

Meanwhile, the Australian Open will be kicking off the 2023 tennis calendar from Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne. It could prove to be something of a redemption for fifth-ranked Novak Djokovic who was controversially booted out of Australia earlier this year because of his vaccination status.

Obviously, the best way to watch either tournament is from the comfort of VIP seats, where you’re closer to the action and made to feel very comfortable. Those lucky enough to have accrued Emirates miles can swap these miles for exclusive VIP experiences at the Australian Open and can even secure sought-after tickets to the final day of play.

Australian Open

The Australian Open is a major tennis tournament held annually in Melbourne, Australia. It is the first of the four Grand Slam tennis tournaments held each year, preceding the French Open, Wimbledon, and the US Open. The tournament is held over a two-week period in mid-January and features singles, doubles, and mixed doubles events. It is the most attended tennis tournament in the world, attracting over 700,000 visitors each year. The tournament is known for its hot weather and unique court surface, as well as its large prize money pool.

The official airline of the Australian Open since 2015, Emirates is offering Skywards members the opportunity to secure VIP tickets to every match day of the tournament, including day, night, and twilight sessions in exchange for miles.

Running from January 16 to January 29, the Australian Open is an excellent opportunity to experience the very best that Melbourne has to offer.

The gorgeous parks and gardens around Rod Laver Arena, Margaret Court Arena, and Melbourne Park are filled with exciting tennis-related activities, such as spaces for you and your group to drink Pimm’s cups, soak up the atmosphere and enjoy the famously sunny January weather.

Australian icon, Rockpool Bar and Grill will offer a contemporary selection of cuisine, served in the luxurious climes of Melbourne Park’s Centrepiece in a three-course format.

Also located in the Centrepiece, Penfolds Restaurant pairs the very best Australian wines with delectable dishes. The refined four-course menu delivers a very high-quality dining experience, providing the perfect break from the on-court action to recharge your batteries.

United Cup

If you’re going to miss out on the Australian Open, never fear. You can get your dose of top-tier tennis at the first-ever United Cup, a brand new teams-based tournament being held in Australia carrying US$15 million in prize money and rankings points.

The event will feature 18 country teams and will be played over 11 days. Some of the hottest international tennis stars will grace the courts of the three host cities of Perth, Sydney, and Brisbane, playing women’s, men’s, singles, and doubles matches.

Each of the host cities will feature two groups of three country teams who will play a mix of single’s, double’s and mixed double’s matches. The winner of each group stage will go on to play in the finals held in Sydney.

Spanish superstar Rafael Nadal will play the entire tournament in Sydney, while women’s world number one Iga Swiatek will compete in Brisbane against the likes of Switzerland and Kazakhstan in Group B. Perth will be treated to the skills of former world number three Stefanos Tsitsipas when he takes on Belgium and Bulgaria.
