Quincy Hotel, Melbourne review

Since lockdown, I do not take hotel stays for granted.

Crawling into high thread count sheets, ordering room service, and knocking back a martini in a sleek hotel bar were all things I fantasized about in the long months of 2020/2021.

Since the world opened back up, many of us have been lucky enough to return to the warm embrace of hotels. But you’re quickly reminded that not all hotels are created equal. Sometimes they don’t quite live up to expectations.

Happily that is not the case with the Quincy Hotel, Melbourne

Quincy is a boutique hotel brand out of Singapore, and this is its first foray into the Aussie market. For locals wanting to splurge on a staycation, or visitors wanting to explore the vibrant Melbourne CBD, this is a damn fine choice. Location-wise, the Quincy is super handy – it is a stone’s throw from Southern Cross train station, just a couple of minute’s walk from where the airport Sky Bus comes in.

And you should definitely upgrade yourself to the Hosier Club experience if you really want to treat yourself.

Upon checking in for the Hosier Club experience you are given a fun gold VIP card which automatically makes you feel like you’re bloody special. When you arrive at The Q – the hotel’s gorgeous architecturally designed penthouse bar – you just flash that card for free cocktails and canapes from 4 pm – 5 pm each day. Having a front-row seat for the sunset and getting free drinks thrown your way is a great start to any evening. And take it from us, their spicy margaritas are truly excellent.

We were staying in Melbourne for a party, and it’s hard to imagine a better place to prepare for a night on the town.

The beautifully appointed rooms have pops of color, offer sparkly views of the city below, and have plenty of room for lounging around in the super cute Quincy bathrobe.

There’s a particular channel on the TV where they show you how to create a range of hairstyles … then you can borrow all the Kevin Murphy products you need to create that style from the concierge downstairs. Not only that, call downstairs and a concierge will arrive at your room with a variety of fragrances for you to choose from.

To make sure you’re not partying on an empty stomach, order up their special Tiffin room service. It’s a three-course degustation dining, by the Salted Egg restaurant downstairs, delivered in a traditional three-tiered Tiffin box (think dumplings and roti bread and spectacular massaman lamb curry).

The next day before check out, cure any lingering hangover with a dip in the rooftop pool, followed by a cracking a la carte breakfast at Salted Egg restaurant on level 1, where you can overlook the stylish pedestrians on Flinders Lane as you knock back a perfect latte.

It’s the perfect end to an epic Melbourne city adventure.
