Bali Open for International Travel

After close to two years since the pandemic forced international travel to a grinding halt, Australia’s top holiday destination has announced it will be reopening to all international travellers this week.

While Bali has been accepting travellers from a number of countries including New Zealand since October 2021, February 4 marks the date the Indonesian island is welcoming back all tourists.

However, vaccinated overseas visitors will still have to quarantine for five days if they wish to visit the island. Unvaccinated travellers will be required to quarantine for seven days.

On January 31, Bali recorded more than 10,000 new COVID infections, with recent surges in cases attributed to the Omicron variant. Pre-pandemic, more than six million tourists flocked to the popular holiday destination. According to an article in Reuters, Bali’s tourism industry is worth 54 per cent of the island’s economy.

While hesitation around travel remains, the announcement signals a step towards the return of overseas holidays and the long-awaited trip to Bali.
